SKETCH
Doing improv naturally led into sketch (combining writing AND comedy? That's the holy trinity! If trinities were just 2 things!) Before too long I was making festival shows with my beloved sketch groups Hit By a Blimp and Mister Act. I've appeared on Channel 31, performed at Festival Club during MICF and was nominated for Best Comedy at Melbourne Fringe 2017. Check out all my shows below!
OH HAPPY GAY!
Mister Act | Midsumma, MICF 2024 | Sketch
Written and Performed by: MISTER ACT (Jayden Masciulli, Simon Hawkings & Allen Dorsey). Directed by: Hayley Tantau
“A comedic extravaganza... side-slitting, thought-provoking, and thoroughly entertaining” - DanceLife
Jayden, Simon and Allen return for another hour of divine queer comedy, featuring new sketches, old faithfuls and a gospel's worth of excellent needle drops (mainly Jessie Ware). Expect hilarious sketches and candid storytelling about queer insecurities, trashy pop culture and which Sister Act character each of us are (spoiler: we are all Maggie Smith). It's heartfelt gay comedy at its funnest and finest. Hallelujah!
AM I DOING THIS RIGHT?
Mister Act | Midsumma 2023| Sketch
Written by: Jayden Masciulli & Simon Hawkings. Directed by: Hayley Tantau
"Frisky and hilarious" - Stage Whispers
We’re here, we’re queer, we’re... honestly full of fear because being a functioning gay man nowadays is exhausting, y’know? Jayden, Simon and Allen explore all their queer insecurities in an exhilarating hour of hilarious sketch. Has your PreP doctor ever made you feel sexually inadequate? Have you given up on a night out to stay home and watch Reba? Do you have zero 'friends in Sydney'? We can’t promise this is the show for you (we told you we’re insecure!) but we reckon it comes pretty close
A VERY MERRY
BLIMPMAS
Hit By a Blimp | MICF 2019 | Sketch
Written by: HIT BY A BLIMP (Jayden Masciulli, Tiana Hogben, Caitlyn Staples)
Directed by: Broni Lisle
“☆☆☆☆ 1/2 - Laugh-out-loud and did-they-really-just-say-that hilarious” - Theatre People
It’s CHRISTMAS! But in - April? Tiana, Caitlyn and Jayden are going all-out with an extravagant Christmas spectacular, to make up for the disaster that took place at last year’s City of Glen Horse Carols by Candlelight. (Let’s not talk about that.) No carol will be forgotten, no turkey will be un-basted and no present will be left under the tree, as Hit By a Blimp take you on a festive journey of silly sketch, hilarious songs and a whole lot of tinsel.
WILD MAN
Jayden Masciulli | Melbourne Fringe 2018 | Theatre
Written by: Jayden Masciulli
Directed by: Kirsten Law
Ronny De Luca is a young, semi-closeted gay man who ultimately has one big dream – to be a contestant on survival reality show “Wild Man”. But which card should he play in his all-important audition tape? Should he be the tough guy? The smart one? The token gay? Or should he just be himself? (Whoever that is.)
I'M HERE
Hit By a Blimp | Melbourne Fringe 2017 (Best Comedy Nominee), MICF 2018 | Sketch
Written by: HIT BY A BLIMP (Jayden Masciulli, Tiana Hogben, Caitlyn Staples)
Directed by: Broni Lisle
“Hard pressed to find even one sketch you hadn’t experienced yourself” - Popculture-y
Nominated for Best Comedy at Melbourne Fringe 2017, I’m Here is a medley of sketch and song, exploring the crushing anxieties of being social. From the lengths you’ll go to not be early to a party, to not being sure how to greet your UberEats driver, this show skewers the social norms of today with humour and heart.
WHO WE WERE
Hit By a Blimp | Melbourne Fringe 2016, 2017 | Sketch
Written by: HIT BY A BLIMP (Jayden Masciulli, Tiana Hogben, Caitlyn Staples)
Directed by: Broni Lisle
“Fantastic narrative sketch that is sure to make any ’90s and ’00s kid swoon.” - Milk Bar Magazine
“You never know what's coming next. But you soon learn that wherever they go, it will be worthwhile.” - Stage Whispers
A power-hour of reminiscing, bursting at the seams with nostalgia. Through sketches, songs and stories we'll take you back to the hazy, tie-dyed memories of our childhood and teenage years, from the games we played and the television we watched, to the music we listened to and the clothes we wore. Then it asks...HOW? How did we ever live like that?! It's a celebration of our youth. It's a love song to the 90's and 00's. It's an S-Club party (because there ain't no party like an S-Club party).
